Virgene Meyer, 87, passed away at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 5th at 1:30 pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Virgene Lucille Prekker Meyer was born February 9, 1936, the daughter of Matthew & Cassie (Gerdes) Prekker. She was baptized & confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. She attended school in Clara City.

Virgene was united in marriage to Stanley Meyer on June 1, 1953, at Immanuel Lutheran parsonage. After living briefly in Olivia, they moved back to Clara City and then to Montevideo for 49 years. In 2018, they returned to Clara City, where she resided until moving to Harmony River in Hutchinson this past March.

Virgene was a homemaker while her children were young. She then worked part-time with Stan at a clothing store in Montevideo before working full time at the Red Owl Store. She was very active in her church, serving in various capacities with the Women’s Group. Virgene was active in mission projects, circle, the Chippewa County Historical Society and helping any neighbors in need. She enjoyed motorcycle rides around Lac qui Parle, camping with her children, baking and quilting and most importantly, spending time with her family.

Virgene passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Harmony River in Hutchinson. She was 87 years of age.

Virgene is survived by her children: Vicki (Bill) Pavlish, Pam (Arlyn) Rice, Scott (Kim) Skaare-Meyer, and Lori (Mark) Buettner; grandchildren: Jeremy (Tracy), Justin (Bridget), Josh (Allie), Katie (Jason), Dan (Heather), Michelle (Tony), Melanie (Jason), Michael (Elizabeth), Austin (Elle), Derek and Melissa; 22 great grandchildren; two sisters: Joyce Roelofs and Sandy Hahn; brother-in-law Ernie (Ardy) Meyer; and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Stan, son Tim and three brothers.

In lieu of flowers, Mom wished memorials to be given to Lutheran World Relief, Global Health Ministries in Fridley or the St. Croix Hospice in Bloomington.
