Susan Riley, 74, of Granite Falls, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the Clara City Care Center. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 28th at 3 pm at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls. Visitation will begin at 1 pm on Friday and continue until the time of the service.

Susan Lee Riley was born July 24, 1948, the daughter of Wallace and Toddy Van Heuveln, in Willmar, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. Sue graduated from the Clara City High School with the Class of 1966.

Sue was united in marriage to Robert Riley on April 1, 1967, at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. Together they moved to California when Bob was stationed there. Following his discharge from the military, they moved back to Minnesota. They eventually settled in Northfield where Sue worked at the Laura Baker School, where she held several different jobs. During their time in Northfield, Sue was also the emergency contact for the local police department as a sign language interpreter.

Sue enjoyed gardening, crafting, reading and was also involved with the Minnesota Won’t Forget POW MIA Organization. She was always there for her husband, her children and the Veterans.

She is survived by her husband Bob of Granite Falls: children: Lori (Tim) Blom of Northfield, Tim (Jean) Riley of Northfield, John (Jennifer) Riley of Northfield and Bobbi (Randy) Peterson of Clarkfield, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild (with one on the way); brother Scott (Trudi) Van Heuveln of Clara City and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Paul and Dan and her great granddaughter Elliott.
