Robert Alan “Bob” Slettedahl passed away at the VA Home in Montevideo, MN on May 5, 2026.
He was born at home in Echo, MN on June 23, 1935. One of thirteen children of Mildred and Lawrence Slettedahl, he lived in Southwestern Minnesota most of his life, except for the years he spent serving our country in the US Army. He worked on farms and in construction, as well as for Rogers Hydraulics and New York Life. His favorite job was working as a rural mail carrier, driving 100 miles a day whatever the weather.
He married Judy Solmonson in 1963 and they had three daughters: Jill, Heidi and Amy. In 1991 he married Karla Skrukrud O’Toole and they had a wonderful life together filled with love, laughter, trips to Lake Carlos and Arizona, and the occasional beer.
Bob was funny, smart, loving—and sometimes grouchy. He was a devoted husband, proud father, delighted Bumpa, and servant leader. He knew how to make and fix anything. He spent a lot of time in his workshop making practical things, as well as doll houses, doll furniture, and beautiful treasures. He was active in the UCC church, in civic organizations, and in helping whoever needed something done.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Kenneth, Lars, Lawrence Jr., James, and Dale, and sisters Shirley, Barbara, Corrine, and Lorraine. He was also preceded in death by stepson, Patrick O’Toole, and best friend Don Maronde.
Bob is survived by his wife, Karla, daughters Jill (Mark) Winter, Heidi (Allan) Macpherson, Amy (Matt) Northrop and stepson Michael (Suzette) O’Toole. He is also survived by grandchildren Josh and Nathan Winter, Gabriel, Benjamin, and Lyndee Northrop, and Avery (Nikki) and Seth O’Toole. In addition, he is survived by his sister Milly and his brothers George and David (Carol) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bob’s service will be held at the Granite Falls United Church of Christ at 11 am on Friday, May 22nd, with visitation one hour before the service. The family invites you to join them for lunch after the service
