Opal "Kit" Colby

Opal "Kit" Colby, age 85, of Alexandria, Minnesota and formerly of Clara City, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Alomere Health Hospital in Alexandria. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 5, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Kit Colby was born December 26, 1938 in Colorado. She was adopted by Leslie and Anna Mae Lynas as a baby and grew up in Trinidad, Colorado. She graduated from a Catholic High School and was strong in her faith.
Kit moved to Minnesota and married Clifford Greenwood. The couple was blessed with four children, Deb, Vickie, Brad, and Steve. In 1983, Kit married James Colby and gained two step-sons, Mike and Fred. Kit and James made their home in Clara City, Minnesota.
Kit enjoyed her job as a CNA at the Clara City Nursing Home before retiring from there. She was active in her faith and was always willing to help others. Kit loved her dogs, collecting beanie babies, and listening to Elvis.
Kit was known to always have a big smile on her face. She loved spending time with her family, especially baking with grandkids and going out for lunch with her children. Kit moved to Edgewood Assisted Living and the staff and other residents there became her family. She especially enjoyed the activities they had like bingo and getting her nails done. Kit was a kind, honest, and loving person who will be greatly missed.
Kit is survived by her children, Deb (Randy) Robb of Osakis, Brad Greenwood of Wadena, Steve Greenwood of Browerville; step-son, Mike (Cheryl) Colby of Clara City; 14 grandchildren and their spouses; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother-in-law, David Colby of Verndale; as well as other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Colby; daughter, Vickie Ness; step-son, Fred Colby; and brother, John Lynas.
