Nancy Aurelius, age 76, of Granite Falls, Minnesota died Saturday, September 16, 2023 at her son’s home in Granite Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Granite Falls. Interment will take place at Granite Falls City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Nancy Jeanne Aurelius was born on May 31, 1947, the daughter of Marvin and Margaret (Van Dyke) Hemingson in Granite Falls, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. Nancy attended school in Granite Falls and graduated in 1965, she then furthered her education at the St. Cloud Business College.
After college, Nancy followed her dream and moved to live in California, she spent time in both San Fransico and Oakland. She began her career as a hairdresser and when she moved back to Minnesota, Nancy opened her own beauty shop on Lake Street in Minneapolis for over 15 years.
Nancy married John Aurelius in South Dakota in 1975. When she became a mom, she closed her beauty shop and stayed home to be with her children and kept doing hair for her clients out of her home. Nancy moved her family to Cold Spring and when her Dad passed away, they moved back to Granite Falls. She worked at Walmart where she wore many hats and finished her career of over 25 years in pharmacy.
Nancy lived her faith, she even received the Bishop’s Medal of Service for her service with the Dinner at Your Door, her service on the Administrative Council at St. Andrew’s and she was a Catechist in the Faith Formation Program. Nancy volunteered at Granite Falls Manor and for Relay for Life.
Nancy was everybody’s mom and a survivor. She truly lived for others and though her children and grandchildren were her first priority, she reached out to others that were in need and they too became “her” family. She was a cancer survivor three times. Nancy was selfless and humble and appreciated a good bottle of wine. If there were any last words from Nancy, she would say, “don’t forget to pass the salt.”
Nancy is survived by her children, Justin (Amanda) Aurelius of Granite Falls, daughter, Jennifer (Josh) Alm of Clara City; grandchildren, Marvin, Liam and Everleigh Aurelius; siblings, Richard (Samantha) Hemingson of Minneapolis, JoAnne (Jim) Hanson of Princeton, Patrice (Ron) Schulte of Granite Falls, Phillip Hemingson of Shakopee, Thomas (Cindy) Hemingson of Clarksville, TN; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Margaret Aurelius; infant daughter; brother, Scott Hemingson.
