Muriel Aalfs Vestal, 87, of Clara City, Minnesota passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 28, 2022, at 10:30 AM at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Muriel Edith Vestal was born on November 22, 1935, the daughter of Robert and Estella (Lindstrand) Petersen in Willmar, Minnesota. She was baptized on April 10, 1936, in her faith at the Kerkhoven Presbyterian Church. Muriel enjoyed school and as a child learn to play piano and later played in the school band. She graduated from the Clara City High School in 1953.
Muriel was united in marriage to Virgil Aalfs on November 22, 1954, at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. The couple was blessed with a son, Kelly. They farmed in the Clara City and Raymond area until Virgil passed away in 1988. Muriel was a personal care attendant at various places locally and continued to raise cattle on the farm.
Muriel married Milton Wayne Vestal on October 23, 1992 also at Bethany Reformed Church. Muriel and Wayne split their time between their lake place in Park Rapids, Corpus Christi, Texas, Tonganoxie, Kansas and Clara City.
Muriel was a strong and independent woman who cherished spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved playing the piano and often shared this talent with others. Muriel was a member of Bethany Reformed Church where she served on the Women’s Guild and was a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed animals, so farm life was the perfect fit. She especially liked dogs and horses. Muriel also enjoyed playing cards, sewing and needlepoint.
Muriel is survived by her son, Kelly (Julie) Aalfs; grandchildren, Kandace (Darrin) Landmark of Montevideo, Samuel (Shelly) of Montevideo; great grandchildren, Josie and Clay Landmark, Kylee and Levi Aalfs; sister-in-law, Phyllis Petersen; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Estella; husbands, Virgil Aalfs, Wayne Vestal; brother, Adrian Petersen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bert (Ruth) Aalfs, Herman (Mathilda) Aalfs, Margaret (Jack) Sweep, Marion (Egbert) Andresen; nephew and nieces.
