Milton Hoidal, age 104, of Montevideo, Minnesota passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 28, 2024 at Luther Haven. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Garden. 

Milton Jacob Hoidal was born on August 7, 1920, in Big Bend, Minnesota, the son of Jacob and Sina (Klaahsen) Hoidal. Milton grew up on a farm north of Holloway, Minnesota and attended school in Holloway. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1942, serving in World War II with the majority of his time being in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged on November 24, 1945.

On September 25, 1949, Milton was united in marriage to Eileen Schlieman at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield Township, Minnesota. In the early years of marriage, they moved to Minneapolis where Milton went to refrigeration school. While attending school, he was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Then the couple moved back West and eventually made their home in Montevideo and were blessed with four children, Dennis, Diane, Dawn and Julie. 

Milton began transporting livestock for the Montevideo Co-op Shipping Association and then worked at GTA Feed Plant until it burned down. He then started transporting homes for Friendship Homes and eventually was the driver for the escort vehicles which he did until he was 95 years old.

Milton kept himself busy in the garage working on cars or small engines. He and Eileen loved to travel and immensely enjoyed their winters in Texas. The couple enjoyed having company over, and would immediately invite you to a game of cards at the table. Milton loved the Minnesota Twins even being recognized as a flag raiser at one of the games at Target Field.

Milton is survived by his wife, Eileen; children, Dennis (Antoinette Moran) Hoidal of Forest Lake, Diane (Larry) Fagen of Sacred Heart, Dawn (Neil) Schmidt of Montevideo, Julie (Dale) Thorstad of Alexandria; grandchildren, Heather (Darrell) Peters, Nathan (Jeanna) Schmidt, Kyle (Liz) Fagen, Brent (Liza) Fagen, Sheree (Robert) Halvorson, Tyler (Sarah) Fagen, Jacob (Alexandra) Thorstad, Ben (Beth Pappenfus) Hoidal, Natalie (Jordan Wente) Hoidal; 21 great grandchildren; sister, Erma Belshaw of Montevideo; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Milton is preceded in death by parents, Jacob and Sina Hoidal; brothers, Bernard (Helen) Hoidal, Lyle (Jean) Hoidal; sisters, Edith (John) Williams. Marilyn (Kenneth) Keefe.
