Merald Allen Borg was born to Alvin and Mabel Borg on August 22, 1932 in Montevideo. He was baptized in Granite Falls and confirmed at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls. He graduated in 1950 and enlisted in the Air Force in 1951, spending 4 years in Greenland and Florida.
He married his high school sweetheart, Eileen Rowberg on July 26, 1952. He and Eileen spent their first few years of married life living in Florida where he was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base.
Merald and Eileen “first met” in the Montevideo Hospital as babies, being born just four days apart. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary last July.
They later made their home in Clarkfield, where Merald owned and operated the Clarkfield Locker Plant for 20 years. He also farmed for many years and enjoyed buying and selling in a business with Tom Rolighed.
He was past commander of the American Legion in Clarkfield, president of the Sportsman Club, served on the Clarkfield Fire Department for 13 years, a scoutmaster for Boy Scouts, and later a member of the Hazel Run Legion.
Merald and Eileen enjoyed their winters in Arizona where Merald loved to golf.
They traveled extensively and enjoyed every minute of it.
Merald also enjoyed his 50 plus years of fishing in Canada with his buddies.
Merald is survived by his wife Eileen, children: Kent Borg of Carbondale, CO; Keith (Melinda) Borg of Henning; Ron (Anita) Borg of Clarkfield and Tami (Brian) Solberg of Montevideo; grandchildren Ethan Borg; Kaya Borg; Erin (Chris) Crosby; Jared (Amy) Hubbard; Darcy (Orion) Bayless; Kelcy (Dan) Vold; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He dearly loved his family and loved singing Ria Ria Runken to his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Merald enjoyed life to the fullest even through many surgeries and a stroke. But, his favorite expression, when asked how are you, his reply was “I’m perfect, and life is good.”
The couples favorite saying: “The best is yet to come.”
