Mary Schmiesing, 91, of Montevideo, passed away on Monday, June 5th at 10:43 am at Copper Glen. Her passing was peaceful. Her celebration of life party will be on Sunday, June 18th from 2-5 pm at the Milan Legion in Milan, MN.
Mary Anita Schmiesing was born on September 16, 1931, the daughter of Dagmar (Dar) and Arlow (Doc) Grant, in Appleton, Minnesota. Mary went to country school in rural Milan, before moving into town and graduating from Milan High School in 1949. She went to cosmetology school in the Twin Cities after high school and did hair for many years. While married to her first husband Duane, she lived in multiple areas of the United States, such as Virginia Beach, Wyoming, Texas and California. She also worked at the Milan Legion for a long time, as well as being a night watchman for the city of Milan before she retired. She loved hunting for antique treasures, thrifting for good deals and shopping for flowers and plants for her garden. She also loved being a grandma to her grandson Madden.
Mary is survived by her daughter Heidi Shawd (Nate) of Milan, son Jay Randall of Milan, grandson Madden Randall of Rochester and brother Arlow Grant (Jane) of Big Bend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doc & Dar Grant, her brother Bob Grant and her 3 husbands, Duane Shawd, Joel Randall and Karan Schmiesing.
