Marie Stevermer

Marie "Betty" Stevermer, age 99, of Granite Falls, Minnesota passed away Friday, May 29, 2026 at Home Front First in Montevideo. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 10:00 AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Granite Falls. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery.

Marie Elizabeth Stevermer was born June 26, 1926 to Leo and Helen (Gebhardt) Muellenbach. She grew up in Wheaton, Minnesota where she was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She graduated from Wheaton High School in 1944. Following graduation, Marie worked in the Soils Department at the university campus in Minneapolis.

Marie married Alan Stevermer in 1947 in Wheaton. The couple spent some time there before moving to Le Sueur, Wahpeton and later Montevideo. They eventually settled in Stony Run Township, west of Granite Falls in 1957 with their nine children.

Marie was a patient person who never raised her voice. She was an avid reader, a painter and enjoyed playing piano.

Marie is survived by her children, Guy, Patrick (Denise), Ann (John), Paul, Dona (Jim), Matthew (Marie) and Ben; 15 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister, Marian Itzen; as well as extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Alan; daughters, Carla and Lori; daughter-in-law, Dianne; and brother, Peter Muellenbach.
