Marian (Schubert) Rogge passed away at Rosewood Care Center in Montevideo on Sunday, June 12, 2022. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Montevideo on Friday, July 1 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior the service. Interment will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Garden in Montevideo.
Marian was born in Worthington, Minnesota April 2, 1925 and grew up on a farm near Brewster, Minnesota. In 1947 she married Wayne Rogge of Boyd, Minnesota. It was a marriage that lasted 63 years until Wayne passed away in 2010.
Together Wayne and Marian raised four children, Pat, Leland, Bob and Greg, on the Rogge family farm. Marian, affectionately known by the kids as “Mumsy,” worked hard on the farm sometimes helping in the fields in addition to all the other tasks required of farm women. Summers were the busiest as Marian made many meals for farm hands, raised chickens, butchered them and either sold them or cooked them for family meals. Her huge garden was her specialty, and she canned many of the vegetables for the winter. When the kids were young she sewed most of their clothes. It seemed she never stopped working with her hands, and in her spare time started refinishing antique furniture for sale. She also volunteered in church as a Sunday lector and helped clean regularly.
In 1968 tragedy struck the family. Her 17-year old son Bob was left totally paralyzed in a car accident. For seven years she cared for him at home until he went to a rehab center in Minneapolis. Bob passed away in 2020 after being in a wheelchair for 50 years.
At 50, Marian was not ready to retire and relax as she began working as an aide at the Clarkfield Care Center followed by Homefront Care Center in Montevideo. By then Wayne was retired as a farmer and they were living in Montevideo.
It seemed Marian would have worked from sun up to sun down had it not been for Wayne who slowed her down long enough to enjoy life a little. They would go dancing, snowmobiling, golfing and up to Lake Minnewaska on weekends.
Marian will be remembered for her endless energy and hard work, for being a devout Catholic and for being a caring mother. Her favorite saying: “It’s a good life if you don’t weaken.”
She is survived by her 3 children, Pat, Leland and Greg (Pam); her grandchildren, Ryan, Mindy and Brandon; her great grandchildren, Taylor, Cody and Savanna. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; son, Bob; sisters, Margaret Pritchard and Olive Schubert; brother, Al Schubert.
