Lynn Erickson, age 74, of Montevideo passed away Monday, November 25, 2024 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Montevideo. A private family service will be held.
Lynn Allen Erickson was born December 30, 1949 in Montevideo, Minnesota to Lewis and Helen (Raddohl) Erickson. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and attended country school west of Montevideo before going to Montevideo Public Schools. Lynn joined the army when he was 17; he completed his basic and AIT trainings at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Fort McClellan, Alabama. He completed two tours while being stationed in Vietnam before returning to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs. He was honorably discharged on April 13, 1971.
Lynn met Elaine Johnson while cruising main street in Montevideo. The couple were wed May 21, 1970 in Watertown, South Dakota. They lived in Colorado Springs for one year before making their home in Montevideo. They were blessed with two sons, Jeremy and Joshua. Lynn loved his boys and was a great father and teacher to them.
Lynn had jobs doing road construction, mechanic work and at a rock quarry before going to AGP in Dawson. He worked there for 20 plus years, first as a diesel mechanic and then driving truck. After retirement, he worked for Joshua and Alison delivering the Minneapolis Star Tribune for a few years. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Lynn liked to spend his time working around the house, taking care of the yard, gardening, and traveling. He especially enjoyed an unforgettable cruise he and Elaine took to Belize and going out west to see the mountains. Lynn loved animals and was a strong, dependable husband and father. He was a master of comebacks and enjoyed conversing with those who could dish it back to him. Lynn will be remembered for his loving personality and his loyal and generous spirit.
Lynn is survived by his wife, Elaine of Montevideo; sons, Jeremy (Melissa) Erickson and Joshua (Alison) Erickson both of Montevideo; grandchildren, Cody, Ashlynn, Jakob (Taylor), Isaiah, Emma; great-grandchildren, Ella, Ryder, Waylon; brother, Luther (Mary) Erickson; brother-in-law, Ordell Zietlow; sisters-in-law, Carol Roozen, Judy (Pete) Stuber; as well as nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Lynn is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Helen; sister, Hila Zietlow; in-laws, Leroy and Alice Johnson; sibling-in-laws, Diane Nelson, Bill Roozen; and nephews, Stewart Roozen and DelRoy Zietlow.
