A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Granite Falls, interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Louie was born on May 31, 1934 in Albertville, Minnesota, son of Louis and Anna (Koch) Roden. Louie was baptized and confirmed in Albertville. He grew up farming and had a dream to be a farmer, although God had different plans for him. He graduated high school in 1953 from Elk River High School. Following graduation, he worked on the family farm. He met his future wife Yvonne (Barthel) in 1956 and after two years they married on April 12, 1958 in Albertville. Louie and Yvonne lived on the farm raising three beautiful daughters, Lynn, Jeanie and Mary Jo. In 1964, they moved to Monticello where he worked at Federal Cartridge/Hoffman Engineering and part time at Coast-to-Coast hardware store in Monticello. During this time their family grew to include Richard (Rick) and Peggy.
In 1971, they moved the family to Granite Falls, Minnesota to open a Coast-to-Coast Hardware Store. They liquidated the business in 1989 and moved to Clear Lake, Minnesota to become caretakers of the Travelers Country Club. Louie could be found mowing the lawns, fixing all things broken and keeping the park running smoothly. They retired from the caretaker position in 2001 and spent the next several years living in Texas during the winter and Clear Lake in the summer. They moved back to Granite Falls in 2016 to settle where they felt at home.
Louie enjoyed working outside, often found doing lawn work, shoveling or gardening. He had a knack for fixing things and was often always taking apart something broken and figuring out how to fix it. He worked hard but found time to have fun with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Louie was often teasing and tickling the kids and constantly smiling when they were around. He will be remembered as a caring and fun-loving father. He and Yvonne remained faithful Catholics through the years, raising their children in the faith.
Louie is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Roden; five children, Lynn (Steve) Zimmerman, Jeanie (Pete) Knudsen, Mary Jo (Brad) Bakken, Rick (Kathy) Roden, and Peggy (Mark) Frederickson; nine grandchildren, Michael (Stephanie) Zimmerman, Katelyn (John) Underwood, Jared Bakken, Becca (Scott) Doerthy, Tara (Justin) Tongen, Danielle (Adam) Koepke, Kali (Zack) Templin, Lexi Knudsen and Nicole Frederickson; nine great grandchildren, Hadley, Jackson, Natalie, Jennessa, Kai, Jake, Jameson, Madilynn and Lily; brother, Gregory (Teresa) Roden, and other relatives.
