Leon Wellman, 95, of Montevideo passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Lake Park, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 4th at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Leon Eugene Wellman was born February 27, 1929, the son of Gloyd & Lena (Kintzi) Wellman in rural St. James, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith at St. James United Methodist Church. Leon attended Rural District #28 in Watonwan County, Rural District #15 in Cottonwood County and graduated from the Mountain Lake High School in 1946. He was later baptized and confirmed at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Henderson.
Leon served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Alaska. He was honorably discharged in June of 1955.
Leon was united in marriage with Marion Quinn on June 22, 1957, at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Leon farmed and was also involved in the seed industry for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, church council and finance committee at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He also volunteered delivering meals on wheels and enjoyed traveling and camping. He was very proud of his family.
Leon passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in Lake Park, Iowa. He was 95 years of age.
He is survived by his children: Stephen (Doris) Wellman of Carmichael, California, Julie (Steve Carpenter) Wellman of Inver Grove Heights, Paul (Pam) Wellman of Northfield and Cheryl (Steve) Olson of Sioux City, Iowa; grandchildren: Rachel Wellman, Carly Wellman, Hannah Wellman, Seth Wellman, Shekinah Wellman, Colin Carpenter, Quinn Carpenter, Sam (Charlotte) Wellman, Kasey (Brett) Felling, Jack (Alannah) Wellman, Geoffery (Meredith) Olson, Elissa (Curtis) Thomson, Tyler (Katie) Olson and Emilie (Andy) Moeller; great grandchildren: Willow Wellman, Theo Wellman, Sawyer Felling, Hudson Felling, Harper Olson, Brooks Thomson, Baylor Thomson, Bronx Thomson, Autumn Kula-Olson and Beckett Moeller; sister Phyllis Peters; in-laws: Diane Quinn, Patricia Quinn, Alice Wellman, and Roxanne Wellman; and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marion; brothers: LeRoy (Mary Alice) Wellman, Charles Wellman and Gloyd Wellman, sister Joyce (Vareld) Englin and in-laws: Maurice, Patrick, Martin, Eugene, Bernard, James Jr. (Linda) Quinn and Harry Peters.
