Karla Slettedahl

Karla Slettedahl, age 87, of Granite Falls, Minnesota passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at her home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Granite Falls Lutheran Church in Granite Falls, Minnesota. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. A Private Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Karla Sue Slettedahl was born July 8, 1938, to Tyler and Edna (Anderson) Skrukrud in Granite Falls, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Karla grew up with her brother and sister spending many hours at her father’s creamery and at the cottage with family. She attended school in Granite Falls, graduating with the Class of 1957. Karla then went to beauty school in Minneapolis.

In high school, Karla met her future husband, Ronald O’Toole and they were married on August 1, 1959, at Granite Falls Lutheran Church and together they were blessed with two sons, Patrick and Michael. Karla was a hairdresser, loving wife and mother. In 1982, Ron and Karla built their dream home outside of Granite Falls and enjoyed the country living prior to Ron’s untimely death in 1983.

In 1991, Karla married her second husband, Robert Slettedahl. The couple enjoyed going to Arizona in the winters and 4-wheeling there. In the summer Karla enjoyed being at the lake making friends wherever she went. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and baking. Karla and her sister, Julie spent countless hours making lefse and all who loved Karla, also loved her chocolate chip cookies. Her greatest joy was family and her grandchildren were loved and spoiled beyond measure.

Karla volunteered in many ways at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. She loved having ‘lunch with the ladies,’ being part of the Red Hat Society and the local quilting clubs. To say Karla was a ‘go getter’ is an understatement, she loved being active and caring for others making her a “best” friend to many.

Karla is survived by her son, Mike (Suzette) O’Toole; step children, Jill (Mark) Winter, Heidi (Allan) Macpherson, Amy (Matt) Northrop; grandchildren, Avery (Nikki) O’Toole and Seth O’Toole, Josh and Nathan Winter, Gabriel, Benjamin and Lyndee Northrop; sister, Julie (Michael) Loomis; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Karla is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ronald and Robert; son, Patrick; brother, Terry (Carol) Skrukrud.
