Joyce Audrey Brevig Anderson, age 87, passed away Tuesday, October 30th, 2018 while under Hospice Care at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Minnesota.
Joyce was born March 19, 1931 in Granite Falls, Minnesota, to Lawrence and Christina "Babe" Brevig. She grew up in Granite Falls and graduated with the Class of 1949.
Joyce married James W. Anderson on December 16, 1950, in Granite Falls. To this union three children were born, Lynn, Todd and Cory. Joyce was the Bert Raney Elementary School secretary for 31 years and loved her job.
Throughout her life, Joyce was active in her community and church. She sang in the Granite Falls Lutheran Church senior choir for 30+ years, was involved in Altar Guild and work groups for several years, the Granite Falls Hospital and Manor Auxiliary Treasurer (3 years), delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered with Living at Home Block Nurse Program, was a Granite Falls Historical Society board member, and was a member of the Yellow Medicine County and Chippewa County Historical Societies. Joyce was a treasure trove of information and loved sharing her memories and information. She also truly LOVED spending time with family and friends, traveling or just having tea together. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed dearly.
Joyce is survived by her son, Todd (Lois) of Willmar and daughter, Cory Hartmann of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Jennifer Marr, Eddie (Lisa) Anderson, Laurie (Brett) Varpness, Andrea (Tom) Lewison, Julia (Ryan) Lee, Andrew (Brittany) Anderson; Stephanie (David) Neuman; Nicole (Zach) Burns; Christopher Anderson; Eric (Angie) Anderson; Adam (Lisa) Anderson; great grandchildren, David, Britney and Katie Marr; Jordan, James, Isabella, Elise and Grant Anderson; Jaden Kolker, Brady and Chandler Varpness; Ella, Avery, Addy and Nora Lewison; Teagan and Olivia Neuman; Sydney Burns; Kylie and Jett Anderson; Thomas and Ruthie Anderson; sisters, Lois Appelwick and Carol (Merlin) Larson; nieces, nephews and cousins; and dear friends, Marlene Ims, Vernon Johnson and countless others.
Joyce was preceded in death by husband, James; son, Lynn; son-in-law, Warren Hartmann; infant grandson, James; parents, Lawrence & Babe; father and mother-in-law, Swede and Evelyn; brother, Berdell (Bev) Brevig; infant twin brothers, Robert and Roger; brother-in-law, Hilding Appelwick.
Granite Falls was always her home but for her last two years Compassionate Cottage of Willmar was her home. Joyce will always be a Kilowatt!
