Janelle Ann ‘Nell’ Hansen was born on January 23, 1958, in Granite Falls, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith in St. Andrew Catholic Church in Granite Falls, of which she was a lifelong member. She graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1976 and continued her education at Mankato State University.
Nell endured many hardships during her young adult life, but through it all, she raised four children who were the loves of her life. She worked at numerous jobs to support her family, including over-the-road trucking.
In August of 2000, Nell’s life changed when she met Ev. She found happiness and became friends with so many wonderful people in Montevideo. She loved riding her purple Harley Springer and took many motorcycle trips to Sturgis, the north shore and all over Minnesota. She joined the American Legion Riders #50 in Montevideo and immediately gave her undivided attention to assisting the group in organizing events and in kitchen detail. Her watchful eye and ‘prowess’ in the kitchen gained her quite a reputation. She was responsible for the creation of a salad bar and also was acting treasurer at the time of her passing.
Nell was a gifted accountant and loved to cook, bake and took great pride in keeping her home clean. She was very meticulous. She loved to watch and feed her birds in the back yard, especially her favorite- the cardinal. She actually kept detailed notes on what birds visited and the time of day they came to eat. Nell, with Ev’s guidance, became very proficient with guns. She accompanied Ev on hog hunts in MO and actually bagged a 366 lb Russian boar! She was so proud that it was bigger than the one Ev shot.
About two years ago in October, Nell was diagnosed with a small amount of cancer in the lining of her left lung. Like a true soldier, she endured 5 days of intensive radiation and the cancer was gone. The side effects of the treatment, however, caused her numerous difficulties and on Saturday morning, April 30, 2016, her weary heart succumbed to the strain and she was called from this life at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital with her best friend and companion of 15 years by her side. She was 58 years of age.
Nell is survived by Ev Bain; her children- Missy Reynolds of Faribault, MN; Josh Reynolds of Owatonna, MN, Tiffany Clark-Ross of Granite Falls, MN and Ashley Clark of Denver, CO; siblings- Tim Hansen of Medford, WI, Terri (& George) Colvill of Pocatello, Idaho and Shelly (& Laird) Tesch of Deer River, MN; her uncle Laverne (& Margie) Hansen of Granite Falls, MN; 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
