James Lee Ruether was born on November 7, 1958, in Montevideo, Minnesota to John and Janet (Moe) Ruether. He was baptized on November 11, 1958 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Appleton, Minnesota. He attended Montevideo Public School, graduating in 1977. Jim served his country in the Minnesota Army National Guard from February 23, 1983 to February 23, 2004, earning a full retirement with honors.
Jim was united in marriage to Lori Eischens on September 24, 1983. They were blessed with three children, Jamie, Shane and Tyler. The couple made their home in Montevideo while Jim worked with his father as a mechanic. Jim purchased Ruether Bros. Garage in 1997, carrying on the legacy of a multi-generational mechanic shop that always provided the highest quality service to their customers throughout the region. Beyond his technical skills, he was also a master of creative fabrication and genuinely enjoyed bringing his visions to life. His imagination had no bounds.
Jim had countless interests. He was generous with his time in giving back to his community. He was a Boy Scout Leader, President of the Milwaukee Road Heritage Center, and a member of the American Legion Riders. Jim encouraged and truly inspired others to join the military with his love for our country and his value of those that serve and served. He enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycle, traveling, reading and even published several poems and stories. Jim was as genuine as they come. He was always willing to help those around him with no limit to his time or resources. He loved meeting new people, had a smile that could brighten any room, and was a master storyteller.
