Jacob Refsland

Jacob Refsland, 89, of Montevideo, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Montevideo. Arrangements are pending at this time.

Jacob Richard Refsland was born March 17, 1936, the son of Christ and Celia Refsland in rural Sacred Heart. He was baptized and confirmed at Opdal Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School. He worked for Refsland Philips 66 for a couple of years. He continued his education at the Machinist School in Granite Falls.

Jacob was united in marriage with Shirley Couet on May 26, 1957, at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. He worked at Western Dairy until he was drafted into the United States Army in February of 1959. He was honorably discharged in January of 1961.

Jacob worked at Rogers Hydraulics for a few years before going to work at Northern States Power Company until his retirement in 1998. Following his retirement he drove for Dial-a-Ride and the Veterans Bus. He was a member of the Montevideo Fire Department from 1971 until 1991. He also enjoyed wood carving in his retirement.

Jacob is survived by his daughter, Sharol (Mike) Rude of Brainerd, MN; son, Dean (Kelly) Refsland of Richmond; grandchildren, Amanda (Eric) Prachar, Chelsea (Eleazer) Briones, Jordann (Nick) James, Gabriel (Maddie) Gibson, Cameron (Brittany) Refsland, Adam (Kayla) Refsland; step grandchildren, Brad (Kael) Rude, Mitch Rude, Alec (fiancé, Abi Seipke), Tyler Evans, Kayla (Kyle) Kunde, Tanner (Mary) Sifferath, Karly (Brock) Zeller; great grandchildren, James, Makynlee, Eleazor III, Ian, Edith, Keira, Aiden, Memphis, Ledger, Braden, Cadence, Parker, Cason, Bennett; step great grandchildren, Asher, Taeson, Mae, Ella, Sawyer, Stephen, Quinn, Beau and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2021, brothers Harvey Refsland, Cecil (Alice) Refsland & Russel (Marlys) Refsland; sisters: Adella (Howard) Cobb, Marcella (Duane) Standfuss & Vangie  (LeRoy) Grabow.
