Gerald Baker, age 88, of Granite Falls passed away Friday, June 2, 2023 at Home Front Assisted Living in Montevideo. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 10:00 am at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Montevideo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Gerald “Jerry” Dwight Baker was born January 26, 1935, the son of John & Hazel (Weberg) Baker, in Maynard. Jerry accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age. Jerry graduated from the Maynard High School. He went to work for the Creamery in Maynard. Jerry started working as a carpenter. He moved to Granite Falls in 1959 and built his house next to the Minnesota River.
Jerry was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Knutson on September 4, 1960, at the First Baptist Church in Granite Falls. The couple made their home in Granite Falls and together they were blessed with four sons, James, David, Paul and Squirt.
Jerry was an avid woodworker and enjoyed model railroads and gardening. He loved to travel to the East Coast and visit family and tour the historical sites the area had to offer.
Jerry is survived by his sons: James (Tammy) Baker of Sacred Heart, David (Amy) Baker of Maynard, Paul (Linda) Baker of Mayville, WI, Squirt (Lisa) Baker of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Benjamin Baker of Sacred Heart, Kara Baker of Maynard, Rebecca (Blake) Hundt of Granite Falls, Cody Baker of Granite Falls, Nathan Baker of Mayville, WI,; great grandson Brantley Hundt; step grandchildren, Wayne Fisk of Jackson, Hope Fisk of Jackson; step great grandchildren, Emma Fisk, Wayne Fisk, Jr.; nephew Butch (Ellen) Schatzer other relatives and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hazel; his wife Betty, brother Jessie Baker and sister Bea (Clarence) Schatzer, nephew Jim Schatzer and niece Judy (Milt) Crawford, brothers and sisters-in-law: Maryan (Ronald) Froland and Elmina (Alex) Lamb.
