Gary LaBatte, age 61, of Granite Falls, Minnesota journeyed to the Spirit World Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Granite Falls Hospital. Celebration of Life will be held Monday, January 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Upper Sioux Community Multi Purpose Building. An all-night wake will begin on Sunday at 7:00 PM also at the Multi Purpose Building. Interment will be at Doncaster Cemetery.
Gary Dean LaBatte was born on October 26, 1962 in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised in Sisseton, South Dakota by his grandmother, Priscilla Blue. He attended school in both Sisseton and Flandreau South Dakota and graduated in 1980 from the Flandreau High School. Gary enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on September 10, 1981. He was stationed in Japan while serving his country. He was honorably discharged on September 9, 1984.
Gary furthered his education at United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, North Dakota receiving his carpentry degree. He then moved to Granite Falls, Minnesota and began working for the Upper Sioux Community as a carpenter.
Gary was married to Charrieth Cloud and they were blessed with their children, April, Forrest and Chelsea. His second son is Dustin. After his divorce, Gary became a dad through his relationships with Paula Ross and Karen Andrade, opening his heart up further to include their children, LaToya, Sheena, Loretta and Bobby.
Gary enjoyed gambling, fishing, camping, boating, playing pool and was a die-hard MN Vikings fan. He was very good at sudoku puzzles. Gary loved to tell stories and share a laugh or joke with his favorite people, his family. He would always end with his famous saying, ‘True story.’
Gary is survived by his children, April (Nadine) Fairbanks of Minneapolis, Forrestt (Jill Rosa) LaBatte of Cottonwood, Chelsea LaBatte of Granite Falls, Dustin Spider of Watertown, SD, LaToya (Ken) Ross-Sullivan of Browerville, Sheena Coffman-Fultz of Granite Falls, Loretta (Caleb) Christenson of Granite Falls, Bobby Andrade of St. Paul; numerous grandchildren; siblings, Lolita Seaboy of Waubay, SD, Kayleen Mosser of Sisseton, SD, Dawn Pilcher of Sisseton, SD; Barbara Mulligan of Montevideo, Georgia Bird of South Shore, SD; Wendy H. Ross of Granite Falls; as well as other relatives and friends.
Gary is preceded in death by his father, Gary; mother, Priscilla Blue; significant others, Paula Ross and Karen Andrade; siblings, Robin Blue, Elroy Blue and Cleo Mulligan.
