Dorothy Roi, of Granite Falls, Minnesota finally joined her family in heaven on January 5, 2024 at the age of 95 in the Granite Falls Care Center. She has anxiously been waiting to play “smear” with her husband, Willie, and her brothers, Frenchie and Jim, and was looking forward to reuniting with her twin sons, Dennis and Joseph, that passed away at birth.
Dorothy (Mireault) was born September 25, 1928 in Crookston, Minnesota. She was the oldest of six children of Mose and Lily (Cassavant) Mireault. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith in St. Dorothy Church in Dorothy, Minnesota. She graduated from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Willie Roi at St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church on September 13, 1949. They celebrated their 68th anniversary in 2017 before Willie passed in June 2018. From this union five children were born.
Dorothy had a strong catholic faith and was very active in The Church of St Andrew. She served many years on the Council of Catholic Women (CCW) and head of the funeral committee. She always thought of others before herself, had a really good heart and loved life.
When they lived in East Grand Forks, she was the head waitress at the Bronze Boot in Grand Forks ND and worked at the Grand Forks Herald newspaper. After moving to Granite Falls in 1972, she worked for Louie and Yvonne Roden at the Coast-to-Coast Store.
She loved fishing, camping, bowling, playing smear, casinos, traveling the country and flying to many destinations with Daniel, Barb & Jason and being snow birds in Arizona for over 10 years.
Dorothy is survived by her son Daniel (Barb) of Rosemount MN, daughter Diane (Dan) Picht of Granite Falls, and daughter Donna (Dan) Knutson of Eagan, MN; Two brothers: Gerald (Joan) Mireault of Crookston MN and Dick Mireault of Hugo MN, Five grandchildren Jason Roi, Laura (Neil) Smith, Julie (Matt) Seely, Cody (Samantha) Knutson and Jesse Knutson; and four great-grandsons: Avery Smith, Colin and Carson Seely and Harrison Knutson and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to those already mentioned, she was also preceded in death by her parents Mose & Lily, infant brother Gerard and sister-in-law’s Rose (Jim) and Donna (Frenchie) and Donna (Dick).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 3, 2024 at 2:00 PM at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Granite Falls with interment following at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Andrew’s Church CCW in Granite Falls. Following the Committal Service a Celebration of Dorothy’s life will continue at Prairie’s Edge Casino in the Sunset Lounge.
