Denny was the son of Halbert (“Hub”) and Louisa (“Gracie”) Anderson. He attended St. Joseph’s School in Montevideo from grades 1 through 8 and graduated from Central High School in 1965. Denny continued his education at Minnesota West Community & Technical College in Granite Falls, later joining the staff as a teacher and mentor to many.
Military Service
After high school, Denny enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1965 to 1969. His commitment to veterans led him to serve as the Veterans Service Officer for Chippewa County for many years, where he assisted thousands of veterans and their families with benefits and support. Denny played a key role in establishing both the Veterans Clinic and the new Veterans Home in Montevideo - work that brought him immense satisfaction and pride.
Personal Life and Interests
In 1971, Denny married the love of his life, Sandra Hein, and together they made their home just outside Montevideo. Denny was known for his passion for Jeeps, hunting, and fishing. He cherished camping trips, fishing adventures in Canada, and traveling across the United States with R&J Tours. His enthusiasm for the outdoors and his adventurous spirit was matched only by his kindness and generosity.
