Darwin Elroy was born June 15, 1936, the son of Selma Lovhaug, in Montevideo, Minnesota. He attended country school in Milan, and during that time he stayed with a family in Milan while his mom worked in the Cities. Darwin enlisted in the military in 1955, serving his country both in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged on March 23, 1964.
Darwin moved to Missouri to work at the Chevy plant. He later returned to Minnesota and enjoyed driving truck for most of his life. Among those he drove for were Montevideo Ready Mix and he hauled sugar beets for the Knutson Brothers.
Darwin and Laura (Reinke) where married on March 26, 1993, in Watertown, South Dakota. He was a member of American Legion Post #69 and also the VFW Post #380. Darwin and Laura raised horses, went to horse shows and loved to go trail riding as a family with their son, Kevin. He enjoyed camping, going to the lake, visiting with others and playing cards and rolling dice. He also enjoyed watching his favorite team, the Minnesota Vikings.
Darwin is survived by his wife, Laura Lovhaug of Granite Falls; son, Kevin Lovhaug of Granite Falls; granddaughter, Payten Coil of Montevideo; mother-in-law, Patricia Reinke of Montevideo; sisters-in-law, Carol Lovhaug of Shakopee, Barb Reinke of Granite Falls, Lisa (Jim) Anderson of Starbuck; brother-in-law, Brad Reinke of Clarkfield; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Darwin was preceded in death by his mother, Selma (Lovhaug) Robertson; brother, Arlen Lovhaug; brother-in-law, Bobby Reinke.
