Alice Brouwer, 98, of Montevideo, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Luther Haven Nursing Home. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 25th at 11:00 am at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Alice Mae Brouwer was born July 2, 1928, the daughter of Weert “Bill” & Henrietta “Etta” (Buss) Zimmer, on a farm south of Kerkhoven. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Alice attended country school and then worked at the Clara City Café and the Creamery.

On July 23, 1948, Alice was united in marriage to Robert Brouwer at the Bethany Reformed parsonage in Clara City. To this union seven children were born.

Alice and Robert made their home in the Benson area and farmed for several years, retiring in 1988. They continued to live on the farm until moving to Montevideo in 2013. Alice always had a large garden and enjoyed sewing and playing the organ. They loved to travel and Alice also would put the finishing touch on the woodworking projects that Bob made.

Alice is survived by her children: Marlene (Duaine) VanDerPol of Montevideo, Daryl Brouwer of Madison, Jeanne (Bruce) Nelson of Delta, Colorado and Faye (Burl) Tjaden of Montevideo; daughter-in-law Cheryl Brouwer of Monticello; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren 2 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law Shirley Timmons; and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert; son Allen Brouwer, daughter-in-law Shari Brouwer, two sons in infancy, granddaughter Lora VanDerPol, great granddaughter Megan Tjaden and brother Wilber Zimmer.
