Lawren "Whitie" Weisbrod

November 13, 2021

Lawren “Whitie” Weisbrod, age 87, of Montevideo passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson, Minnesota. Private family services will be held in the Spring of 2022. Lawren Harry Weisbrod was the first born of twin boys to Harry James and Cora (Carlson) Weisbrod at the Montevideo Hospital on September 23, 1934. He was baptized at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo, Minnesota and later confirmed his Lutheran faith at the same altar. Raised and educated in Montevideo, Whitie enlisted in the United States Air Force at 17 years old. He served in the Air Force from April 1, 1952 until March 31, 1956. To pick up a little spending money, Whitie took a 9 month part time job with the Department of Geological Survey in Clarkfield, Arkansas before returning to Montevideo. Whitie enlisted in the United States Navy on January 8, 1958 and honorably served with the Atlantic Fleet aboard the USS Charles F. Adams. During that service, he saw many countries including Europe, Sweden and Holland. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on June 22, 1962 and later went on to enlist in the Army National Guard of Minnesota. Whitie’s careers included bridge construction and working for the Department of Natural Resources for 18 years. After retirement, he has worked seasonally for Cenex. In his leisure time, Whitie loved to go on scenic trips with Eutopia Tours. He enjoyed the Pacific Northwest, Canada and Wyoming to name a few. He liked to take driving trips and was well known at local camping grounds and fishing holes. Big Stone Lake was one of his favorite spots to find solace. Whitie is survived by his sister, Carol (Arnie) Johnson of Minneapolis and her family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Cora Weisbrod and his twin brother in infancy.
