Diane Marie Ruether (Grinager), aged 84, peacefully passed away at her Montevideo, Minnesota home on June 6th, 2024, surrounded by her family. Born on July 6, 1939, to Norwegian immigrants, Melvin and Petra Grinager of Boyd, Minnesota. She bore witness to significant changes in her lifetime, transitioning from a childhood on a farm without electricity or running water, alongside nine siblings, to the modern conveniences we now take for granted.
After graduating from Boyd High School, Diane worked as a dental assistant in Montevideo, where she met her beloved husband, Donald Ruether. They exchanged vows at St. Joseph Catholic Church on June 18, 1960, and over the ensuing years, their family flourished with the birth of three children: Lori, Brad, and Brian. While Don worked away from home on road construction in the early years, Diane dedicated herself to her family's well-being. In the 1970s and 1980s, she extended her commitment to family by assisting with office operations at Ruether Brothers Garage.
Diane's life was marked by a steadfast dedication to others. She volunteered tirelessly, delivering meals to the elderly, teaching religious classes, leading Boy Scout troops, and engaging in various church activities just to name a few. She cherished her "Birthday Club," a group of friends who supported and celebrated each other for over five decades.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and servant of God, Diane is survived by her loving family: daughter Lori Ward (Rick), sons Brad (Wendy) and Brian (Patty), eight grandchildren—Melissa, Brandon, Ryan, Reid, Cody, Andrea, Rachel, and Peter—and five great-grandchildren—Camden, Maci, Cayson, Jaxton, and Maxwell. She is survived by three sisters—Alice Beattie, Helen Hutt, Ruby (Ed) Pacheco—and numerous nieces and nephews. Diane is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Mildred, brothers Helmer, Benny, Palmer, LuVerne, and Gerald, and other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 21st, 2024, at 11 am, with visitation one hour prior at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where Diane and Don faithfully worshipped for over 60 years. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
